TWILIGHT

The dangers of
TWILIGHT OBSESSION

I have been driven to write this article, because of a very real aching in my heart for so many of my friends and family who are obsessed with Twilight. I am shocked beyond words that so many Christians and church groups have become blinded, even to the point where they label the occult book as a Christian fiction, and hide behind the defence that the author is a supposed Christian! I have never seen or read any of the Twilight books/movies, and honestly have absolutely no desire whatsoever to taste and see what the world is so obsessed with. The world’s infatuation should be enough to warn off Christians. And the very fact that this story is built around such occult, evil and wicked characters, should be the final warning that these stories should not fill our minds.

But the sad truth is that the world, both Christians and non-Christians are blindly obsessed with Twilight. But why? Is Twilight just a harmless piece of fiction? Is it any big deal that a Christian becomes captivated with Twilight?

The story plot...

So, what’s the hype all about?

The series is about a teenage girl called Bella, who moves to a new town and falls in love with a handsome vampire named Edward. Although Edward is 108 years old, he appears to be 17. The story is about their infatuation for each other and the consequences of a lustful vampire/mortal romance. Edward is a member of a “coven” of vampire family members that are depicted as “good.”

Now, shouldn’t this be enough to turn any Christian away? Obviously not!!

Twilightmania sweeps the world….

Hollywood has been quite creative, when it comes to vampires. They have done it all. Vampires have been portrayed as horror, humor, sitcoms, child-hood hero’s, and now, we see vampires as romantics! This obsession with vampires has swept the world, like never before. The Twilight novels have gained worldwide recognition and sold over 100 million copies globally, with translations into 37 different languages. The series has become a phenomenon. Sadly, a majority of readers are teenage girls, but that number is sweeping swiftly across women of all ages. And even more sad is the fact that more and more Christian’s are embracing Twilight too!

But Twilight has a very dark side, and you need to know about it…….

Author Profile…

Stephenie Meyer was born on December 24, 1973, in Hartford, Connecticut. The Morgans relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, four years later. As the second of six children, Meyer took on the duties associated with being an elder sibling in a large Mormon family. In between caring for her younger brothers and sisters she showed a passion for reading, becoming a fan of classic authors including Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, and Margaret Mitchell.

She felt quite out of place among the privileged population of Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. But, nevertheless, Meyer was an excellent student, graduating in 1992, and earning herself a National Merit Scholarship. She used the award to attend Brigham Young University, choosing to major in English literature.

In 1996, between her junior and senior years, Meyer became reacquainted with childhood friend Christiaan "Pancho" Meyer, and married him, less than a year after their first date. After graduating from Brigham Young University in 1997, Meyer chose to become a stay-at-home mother to sons Gabe, Seth and Eli.

Meyer comes across as a prim and proper, attractive, intelligent, ordinary kind of mother. But there is more to her than first meets the eye.

Author’s religious background…

One of the grounds on which many Christians argue that Stephenie Meyer’s books are okay, is that she is a Christian. It is a well-known fact that Stephanie is a Mormon. But Mormons are NOT Christians!

There are several strong reasons why Morman’s are not Christians.

  1. Mormons do not follow or believe in the Jesus Christ of the Bible. The god of the Mormons is not the God of the Bible. To the Mormons, Jesus is the firstborn son of an exalted "man" who became the god of this world.
  2. The Jesus that Mormon’s believe in, is the brother of Lucifer, and according to their teaching, he married several of the Marys of the New Testament.
  3. The Mormon Church claims that other writings, such as the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith's writings are also authoritative.
  4. The Mormon writings support polygamy.
  5. Mormons believe that one's salvation is based on such good works as baptism, good deeds, missionary work, and following Mormon teachings.
  6. Mormon structures have Masonic symbolism because the founder, Joseph Smith, was a Freemason!
  7. One such symbol is the “all seeing eye”…..the “eye of Lucifer”.
The demonic evolution of Twilight…

I was stunned to learn about how the idea for Twilight came to be. Some six years after graduating from University, and starting a family, Stephenie Meyer’s career began on the night of 1st June, 2003. She tells this story on her own website:

“I woke up . . . from a very vivid dream. In my dream, two people were having an intense conversation in a meadow in the woods. One of these people was just your average girl. The other person was fantastically beautiful, sparkly, and a vampire. They were discussing the difficulties inherent in the facts that A) they were falling in love with each other while B) the vampire was particularly attracted to the scent of her blood, and was having a difficult time restraining himself from killing her immediately.”

From that point on, she was driven like a crazy woman to write the story, often climbing out of bed in the middle of the night to write because of voices in her head, that would not stop until she had finished writing.

She said…

“They simply wouldn’t shut up. I’d stay up as late as I could stand trying to get all the stuff in my mind typed out, and then crawl, exhausted, into bed…”

On her website, she writes…

“I was so intrigued by the nameless couple's story that I hated the idea of forgetting it; it was the kind of dream that makes you want to call your friend and bore her with a detailed description. (Also, the vampire was just so darned good-looking, that I didn't want to lose the mental image.) Unwillingly, I eventually got up and did the immediate necessities, and then put everything that I possibly could on the back burner and sat down at the computer to write—something I hadn't done in so long that I wondered why I was bothering. But I didn't want to lose the dream, so I typed out as much as I could remember, calling the characters "he" and "she."

The vampire who came to Stephenie Meyer in a dream she describes as “fantastically beautiful, sparkly”. But consider what vampires really are...demon-possessed, evil, former human beings who suck blood from their victims to sustain themselves. Nevertheless, when Meyer awoke she was deeply in love with this being, who virtually moved into her head, creating conversations for months that she typed out until Twilight was written.

Doesn’t this sound strange to you? Do you think these dreams were of God? Conversation with spirits and frightening dream visitations by spirits are part of occult or spirit communication. I have read many testimonies of former witches and vampires, who became Christians, who all testify to the fact that “dreams” are the easiest way for demons to communicate! Meyer’s spiritual experiences could have been influenced by her Mormon faith which allows for communication with the so-called “the dead”. Strangely, it was such dreams that started the Mormon religion!! Mormon founder Joseph Smith was “visited” by a communicating “angel” called Moroni, which now stands on top of all Mormon Temples. This fallen angel gave Smith messages on which he formed his Mormon doctrine.

Surely, if Twilight is demonic in origin, it is dangerous, to Christians and non-Christians alike.

It is quite interesting to note here that tragically, J.K.Rowling has revealed that her inspiration for “Harry Potter” also came from what appears to be a spirit communication. Rowling admitted that the characters in her novel’s were communicated to her through a stream of consciousness. She said “Harry’s a character came fully formed, as did the idea for his sidekicks, the characters of Ron and Hermione, who is the brains of the threesome. It started with Harry, then all these characters and situations came flooding into my head.” Rowling describes the way she writes at times as though she is only taking notes of things she sees and hears in visions, “I see a situation and then I try to describe it as vividly as I can.”

The darker side of Twilight…

I think one quote should be enough to wake us up! Vampire Edward Cullen says…

“I’m the world’s most dangerous predator. Everything about me invites you in: my voice, my face, even my smell. . . . I’m designed to kill. . . . I wanted to kill you. I’ve never wanted a human’s blood so much in my life. . . . Your scent, it’s like a drug to me. You’re like my own personal brand of heroin.”

In all honesty, this sounds like Satan himself...and Angel of Light, luring his victims in!

All of the main characters of Twilight possess dark, supernatural abilities, such as…
  1. Mind reading
  2. Automatic writing, which is a supernatural writing performed without conscious thought or deliberation.
  3. Levitation
  4. Lycanthropy, which is the supernatural ability to assume the form and characteristics of a wolf.
  5. Precognition, which is the knowledge in advance of it’s occurrence, especially by extrasensory perception.
  6. Clairvoyance, which is the supposed power to see objects or events that cannot be perceived by the senses.
  7. Super strength, hearing and speed.
Not great role models are they, or characters that we can aspire to?

Are you aware that the original title of Twilight was “Corpse,” but the publisher changed it to make it more appealing?

An even darker side…..

The “all seeing eye”

“Team Edward’s” mascot is the pyramid and the “all seeing eye”. The “all seeing eye” is a universal symbol representing spiritual sight, inner vision, higher knowledge, and an insight into occult mysteries. The “eye” at the top on a pyramid is a Masonic symbol for the all-seeing eye of god. It’s a mystical distortion of the Biblical God.

To 33rd degree Freemasons, the eye represents Lucifer. They subtly use pop culture to indoctrinate viewers to their symbolism andante-Christian beliefs. So, it’s no real surprise that “All Seeing Eye” by Paramore” plays on the Twilight soundtrack. Paramore’s songs and music clips are stuffed full of the occult, in Satanic symbolism and wicked backward messages.. Their music is much more dangerous than it seems at first glance.

It’s interesting to note here that on all of the Twilight book and dvd covers, and movie posters of this series, ONE EYE IS SEEN! On some of the book covers, a full face is shown, but one of the eye’s are barely visible, whereas the one is clear. Interesting!!

And did you know that on one of the cover’s for the book titled “New Moon”, Edward walks through two Masonic pillars, with Masonic arches behind them?

Occult origin’s of character’s names...

There are occult names found in the Twilight saga, that aren’t commonly used in society today. Let’s look at them in detail.

Amun Ra...

Amun Ra, according to the Twilight saga, is an Egyptian vampire and the leader of the Egyptian Cove. “Amun” is also the name of a god in Egyptian mythology. Heis regarded as the most important gods, and is often depicted as a ram...much like Lucifer! “Amun” is believed to be the physical father of all Pharaohs. “Amun” is known by many other names, and takes on many other forms. This makes him one of the most confusing gods to understand.

“Amun” means HIDDEN, and “Ra” means LIGHT. “Occult” also means LIGHT. So it figures that “Amun Ra” is the occult “god of light”.

The Cullen’s name…

Meyer gave Edward and his vampire brothers and sisters, the surname “Cullen”. There is something very interesting about this name. I have just viewed an interview with a guy called John Todd, who was a former illuminatist and witch, who became a Christian. Whilst involved with witchcraft, he was brainwashed to believe that the “Christian” was the most evil and hateful being in the world. He was taught that the “Christian” was even more vile than Adolf Hitler! Before he changed his name to Todd, his surname was “Cullens”. According to numerous history books, his former surname is directly linked to the Cullens family tree that was responsible for bringing witchcraft to the USA!!

Tyler Crowley…

In Twilight, Tyler Crowley is one of Bella's “human” classmates. In the saga he nearly hits Bella with his van, but she is saved by Edward. Afterward, Tyler is desperate to make it up to her, bombarding her with constant apologies.

There is something interesting about the name that Meyer gave this character. “Aleister Crowley” was an English occultist, who was an influential member of many occult organisations, and was well known for his “magical writings”. He was dubbed as “the most wicked man in this world” because he believed and practiced child sacrifice, which was a part of his teachings. He wrote many books, one of which was called “Goetia, the Book of Evil Spirits”, in which there are 200 diagrams and seals for invocation and convocation of spirits. One of the evocable evil spirits is “Amon”. While on holidays in Egypt, his wife Rose had a dream, in which she was channelled by a being called “Lan”. It was through this evil spirit’s direction that Aleister wrote two more wicked books, “Liber Al Vel Leris” and “The book of the Law”.

Oh, and did one little detail I forgot to mention…..the name given to Aleister Crowley at birth was EDWARD.

Edward’s former name…

Have a guess what name Meyer gave Edward before he became a vampire? Mason!! Is this significant? Yes!! As we know, Meyer was a Mormon, and the founder of this religion was a Freemason. It is important to note that there are links between the occult images found with both cults. One such symbol, found especially in Masonic Lodges, is the “eastern star pentagram”, symbolising their worship of the sun. Now, tell me that Edward’s former name is just a coincidence. I think not.

Mixed critic reviews of Twilight…

It is quite interesting to note what the critics have said about Meyer’s Twilight series.

Firstly, take a look at what is written on the inside cover of one of her Twilight books, “Breaking Dawn”…

“...Breaking Dawn illuminates the secrets and mysteries of this spellbinding romantic epic that has entranced million….”
Illuminates, spellbinding and entranced…..interesting choice of words!

People Magazine states that the Twilight books….
“...has a hypnotic quality.”

The New Yorker stated…
“...this fantasy is blissful madness.”

The Good Reads reviews stated….
“..the writing is amateurish at best (clichés, stereotypes, purple prose…); the grammar and syntax are unforgivably bad…”

Another review on Good Reads said…
“...the writing mechanics are atrocious.”

And an annonymous secular reviewers said...
“A dark romance that seeps into the soul.”

Stephen King wrote….
“...Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good.”

Well now, what does all this say?? Her stories are entrancing, hypnotic, bliss madness and spellbinding…...but she is classed as a mediocre, amateur writer!! How then has this series become almost like a cult? She has sold millions of copies, in over 20 different languages, and now her movies are sweeping madly across the world! How? Take another look at the facts about Aleister Crowley. Just like Crowley’s “Lan”, the “Edward” in Meyer’s dreams channelled it’s story through her, which resulted in the Twilight saga.

But wait, there’s more…..

Another occult dream!!...

Stephenie Meyer was interviewed by Movie Fone recently and revealed details of a dream she had about Edward Cullen. She stated the following….

"I had this weird... I was sleeping in the guest room because my husband had a horrible cold and so I wasn't like in my normal surroundings and I had this dream that Edward actually showed up and told me that I got it all wrong and like he exists and everything but he couldn't live off animals... and I kind of got the sense he was going to kill me. It was really terrifying and bizarrely different from every other time I've thought about his character. It was cool because it added something different to my view of him.”

Frightening, huh? Even the author of these books said that Edward was terrifying!

One thing more….Her latest novel, The Host, is about demon possession.

Ok, so you are still not convinced? You still think that the Twilight saga is still harmless fiction?

Twilight is not a parallel to Christianity...

I am absolutely baffled that ANYONE could even drag my Lord and Saviour into this!! How could anyone tell me this series is ok, because there is a similarity between vampires and the story of salvation?? I am even more shocked to learn that the problem is that the church and Christians are being deceived by many new-age occult philosophies, that promotes them as compatible “Christian” ideals. Instead of denouncing such influences in books, movies and music, the church is creating sermons based on the books of our time.

These is something in Meyer’s saga that Christian must be made aware of….and that is the FALSE GOSPEL. Take a look at the image of Bella holding an apple on the cover of the original Twilight book, for instance. Meyer even admits that this is a representation of the “forbidden fruit” outlined in Genesis, of the Bible. Just look what she says on her own website…

“The apple on the cover of Twilight represents "forbidden fruit." I used the scripture from Genesis (located just after the table of contents) because I loved the phrase "the fruit of the knowledge of
good and evil." Isn't this exactly what Bella ends up with? A working knowledge of what good is, and what evil is. The nice thing about the apple is it has so many symbolic roots. You've got the apple in Snow White, one bite and you're frozen forever in a state of not-quite-death... Then you have Paris and the golden apple in Greek mythology—look how much trouble that started. Apples are quite the versatile fruit. In the end, I love the beautiful simplicity of the picture. To me it says: choice.”

But, you see, according to the book of Genesis, touching “the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil” had serious repercussions for Adam and Eve…..DEATH! But Bella’s pride, in taking of the “forbidden fruit” has no consequence at all...only rewards. Just look what Bell says when she is transformed into a vampire….

“I could really appreciate him now… He was all new, a different person as our bodies tangled gracefully into one on the sand-pale floor.  No caution, no restraint.  No fear – especially not that. We could love together - both active participants now.  Finally equals… I was never going to get tired, and neither was he.  We didn’t have to catch our breath or rest or eat or even use the bathroom; we had no more mundane human needs.  He had the most beautiful perfect body in the world and I had him all to myself, and it didn’t feel like I was ever going to find a point where I would think, Now I’ve had enough for one day.  I was always going to want more.  And the day was never going to end. So in such a situation, how did we ever stop?”

Sounds very similar to how the serpent tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden!

“You will not die.  For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Gen. 3:4-5

Meyer turns the Gospel on it’s head, suggestion that the serpent is right. Bella eats of the forbidden fruit, and gets everything she wants, with no consequence. So, in a way, Twilight is very ANTI-GOSPEL and Edward is an anti-Christ figure. One of the messages of Twilight is that there is a way to have immortal life, eternal life, apart from a relationship with God through His son, Jesus Christ. The subtle message is that there is a way to live forever without dealing with the obstacle of our sin problem by confessing that we are sinners and we need the forgiveness and grace of a loving Saviour.

Twilight even contains mockery of God’s Word. In the first of the series, Edward says to Bella….

“And so the lion fell in love with the lamb.”

There are many other ways in which Christians try aimlessly to parallel Twilight to Christianity. Some of the examples are quite sickening, such as the way in which Edward refuses to have sex with Bella. Christians exclaim at what a wonderful role model he is for our teens today! But the truth is that Edward wants to eat Bella every time the sexual tension gets too high. He avoids having sex with her, not on moral grounds, but out of fear lest he eat her and cause he to become immortal like him.

I am too appalled to even attempt to explain the reasons why Christians would be blind enough to see a similarity between God and wickedness. And really, I don’t think there is a need. Why? Because of what the Bible says…

“Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14

You can not mingle something as pure as God, with something as wicked and unclean as vampires, and tell me that it’s okay! You cannot whitewash something so evil. If you scratch the surface it is BLACK with sin. The God of the Bible would not use vampires, sexual tension, lust, boyfriend worship, and teenage romance to spread His Gospel of eternal life and salvation through Jesus Christ.

Let me just say this…..the Gospel story is so simple that even a child can comprehend, understand and except it. The warped Christians who honestly think that the Gospel needs the addition of wicked, evil, Satanic creatures, to tell the story “better” and make it more “acceptable” in today’s society, are sadly lacking in spiritual discernment. In all honesty, I would go so far as to say that such so called Christians are more than likely wolves in sheep’s clothing, trying to snare another lost soul.

Ok, so you are still not convinced? You still think that the Twilight saga is still harmless fiction? Let’s see what God’s Word says…..

The Biblical reasons why Christians should abstain from Twilight…..

  1. The origins of vampires and werewolves
  2. The drinking of blood
  3. Fantasy can transform beliefs and morals
  4. God warns us to abhor evil
  5. Twilight sugar-coats evil
  6. Compromise can rsult in new values
  7. Dangers of dabbling in the occult
It is important to take a deeper look at each point here…..

1. The origins of vampires and werewolves…

It’s no shock that these mythical, supernatural creatures were dreaded, blood-thirsty manifestations of evil spirits, linked with darkness, the occult and Satan. Unfortunately, so many are attracted to the paranormal. But we must understand and accept the fact that it is a forbidden realm that God calls EVIL! Knowing of our human flaws, God warns us to shun all forms of real and imagined occultism.

It should be pointed out here that human-vampires actually do exist. Although they don’t possess the supernatural powers, as outlined in fictional mythology, they do drink human blood, and follow the way of living, religion, etc! Here in Australia, in1989, a 24 year old woman, by the name of Tracey Wigginton, killed a man just to drink his blood. She was a well known occultist, witch and human-vampire, and prior to the murder, often drank the blood of her lesbian girlfriend. I have also read numerous article by former vampires, who have become Christians. I make this point because we aren’t just playing with fantasy here. There are people who take there obsession further than we dare think.

"...have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret." Ephesians 5:11-12

"For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols?...Therefore ‘Come out from among them and be separate,' says the Lord." 2 Corinthians 6:14-17

2. The drinking of blood...

It is very clear in God’s Word, that God forbids the occult practice of drinking blood of any kind. There are a number of Scripture references, in the Old and New Testaments…..

"Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.” Genesis 9:4

"For as for the life of all flesh, its blood is identified with its life. Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, ‘You are not to eat the blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is its blood; whoever eats it shall be cut off.” Leviticus 17:14

"Only you shall not eat the blood; you are to pour it out on the ground like water…” Deuteronomy 12:16

"Only be sure not to eat the blood, for the blood is the life, and you shall not eat the life with the flesh.” Deuteronomy 12:23

“But that we write to them that they abstain from things contaminated by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood.” Acts 15:20

According to Scripture, blood drinking is judged as despicable by God. Such an act distorts the purpose of blood, and is a satanic mockery of what God intended blood to represent. Scripture teaches that the shedding of blood is the remission of sins. In the Old Testament, animals were sacrificed as a picture of how the spotless Lamb of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, would pour out His sacred blood to pay for our sins.

3. Fantasy can transform beliefs and morals

I have heard it too many times, that Christians are reading the Twilight series, knowing that they are fiction and fantasy, and not reality. But, studies have shown that persuasive fiction and virtual experiences actually can change minds and plant lasting memories. Sadly, these memories are often shown to be more effective than actual experiences. As Harvard Professor Chris Dede, a global leader in the development of education technology programs, wrote, "Sensory immersion helps learners grasp reality through illusion." The Bible actually warns about how illusions can shape our lives.

"For as he thinks in his heart, so is he." Proverbs 23:6

"...they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart..." Jeremiah 11:8

"Jesus said, 'You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Matthew 5:27-28

"Do not be deceived. ...he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life." Galatians 6:7-8

4. God warns us to abhor evil…

Sadly, the world’s marketing industry is helping our society to desensitise today’s youth against occultism. Today’s society is teaching our youth to reject God….Satan’s ultimate plan! Marilyn Ferguson, in The Aquarian Conspiracy, states…. "You can only have a new society, if you change the education of the younger generation."  That process demands that people reject God's boundaries and "abhor" what He calls good. Sadly, that change is well under way!

“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.” Romans 12:9

"You love evil more than good...." Psalm 52:3

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness.... Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!" Isaiah 5:20-21

5. Twilight sugar-coats evil

Let’s get real here!! Edward is a vampire, who craves Bella’s blood, and wants to devour her!! In all reality, he is wicked and evil!! But, movies and books have redefined “evil”, and made it appear “good”. We now have “good” witches, white magic, and good vampires!! When confronted with Twilight’s “different” values, the Christian faces a form of mental and moral confusion, because they clash with Biblical views. Therefore, a Christian is faced with a choice….the values taught in God’s Word, or the tempting and attractive messages taught in Twilight? So sadly, to deal with this conflict, many Christians choose to compromise, and modify their values. It often comes down to peer group pressure. But, as Christians, we must be willing to take a stand on God’s TRUTH, no matter what the cost.

"...the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you, be watchful in all things..."" 2 Timothy 4:2-5

You see, there is NO "beautiful side of evil". You cannot sugar-coat sin. Scratch the sweet surface, and you find the deep, dark side. Sin is sin, evil is evil. A vampire or demon is still evil, no matter how much Meyer tries to pretty him up.

"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!"  Isaiah 5:20-21

The Bible warns us against this type of thinking, that EVIL is GOOD…...

"But the Holy Spirit distinctly and expressly declares that in latter times some will turn away from the faith, giving attention to deluding and seducing spirits and doctrines that demons teach." 1 Timothy 4:1

6. Compromise can result in new values

I read a comment on a forum that stated….

"These books are so addictive -- kind of like drugs. If they can captivate Christians who should know better, just think what they can do to non-Christian readers."

Unfortunately, it seems to be a trend that many obsessed with Twilight learn to crave more of the same thing, or even things on a higher level. Such contempt for God’s Word, breeds more desire for sin. This new belief system, that such books are breeding, promote new gods and practices, often camouflaging behind the name of God, and Christianity.

7. Dangers of dabbling in the occult…

Any obsessive interest in vampires, witches, ghosts, and any other occult figures, can be unhealthy at best, and dangerous at worst. I really don’t think that Christians truly understand the dangers of the occult, and the mingling of it into our entertainment and movies. I have heard the arguments….. “oh, it’s just a movie”….. “He is a good vampire”… “it’s a fiction novel”. It might be surprising for some to learn that even MTV has acknowledged that such movies as Twilight and Harry Potter, have played a surprising role in making Wicca (witch craft) one of the fastest growing religions in America. Looking at the occult light heartedly is dangerous, as it this sort of impressions on teens and younger children. Little by little, Satan is softening our defences, and weaving more and more of his wickedness into our lives.

Tragically, many new Wiccans have been deceived into believing they can have relationships with “good” spirits and cast “good” spells, thanks to the lies saturating readers minds in such books as the Twilight series. In reality, these new comers to Wicca have opened the door to demonic oppression and even demon possession. Such newcomers to Wicca are taught that they can use counter spells to summon so called “good” spirits, to protect them from evil spirits. This is a delusion of Satan, used to lure prospective Wiccan’s in, promising power over evil! Sounds a lot like what happened in the Garden of Eden, hey? Sadly, Edward, the Twilight vampire, gives readers the elusion of a romantic, supernatural hero, and the lie that there are “good” dark spirits. There is no such thing as “white” or “black” magic. Even founders of Wicca admitted this!! Doreen Valiente, the Wiccan high priestess, who had more influence on Wicca than any other woman, stated :the distinction between black and white magic has no validity.” Starling, another Wiccan leader, said that “this might actually offend some, but it hides one of the greatest truths of witchcraft, that there is not white or black magic, there is only magic.” Such statements are inline with what the Bible states, and shows that such deception is a ply of Satan’s to draw and attract his prey, leading them to believe that they can use their occult powers for good. Remember that Satan disguises himself as “an angel of light’.

Dabbling in the occult is very real and very dangerous. It can be misused by anyone involved in it. By dabbling in the occult, people, young and old, open themselves up to demon possession. Interaction with ANYTHING pertaining to the occult is dangerous, because it rejects God’s will for man. God forbids occult practices. Therefore, involving yourself with the occult is like aligning yourself with the spiritual enemies of God. The occult is also dangerous because mankind is unprepared and ill-fitted and un-equipped against Satan. Delving into the occult is like walking, unprotected, through a minefield. The most frightening thing about dabbling in the occult is that it introduces people to evil spirits who seek their destruction. It introduces them to Satan’s very real and dangerous hatred for God.

Just remember that Wicca is reported to be the fastest growing religion in America today. Promoting, encouraging and obsessing over Twilight, is not only a spiritual danger to Christians and non-Christians, but is a poor witness and example to weaker Christians, children, vulnerable teens, and those in need so salvation.

Conclusion

Satan is very deceptively working his way into our homes and our minds. He is sugar-coating wickedness, and cunningly making it look attractive to Christians and non-Christians alike. He is deceivingly attempting to numb our minds to the dangers of the occult. It’s a very sad and true fact that many Christians today are unaware that there is a spiritual battle between good and evil. Why? Because so many are blinded to the fact that they themselves have become participants.  Those who desire to remain true to God must be continually vigilant and aware of Satan’s “devices”, so that we are not deceived and don’t succumb to evil doctrines.

We are warned by God Himself…

“Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.” Ephesians 5:11

It is crucial that we remember that we aren’t wrestling against mere human forces, but we are wrestling against Satanic forces that are in rebellion to the one true God.

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12

Unfortunately, Satan and his demons are advancing occult doctrines by channelling their teachings through humans, which are appealing to so many. They are being led away from the truth by Satan tickling their ears and telling them what they want to hear.

“Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.” 2 Timothy 4:2-4

And God warns about Satan’s ability to blind our eyes….

"He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, he has made their minds dull, to keep them from seeing with their eyes and understanding with their hearts and minds and repenting and turning to Me to heal them." John 12:40

We are reminded in God’s Word…

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” Philippians 4:8

And shouldn’t this be a motto for every Christian home….

“Do not bring a detestable thing into your house or you,
like it, will be set apart for destruction.
Utterly abhor and detest it, for it is set apart for destruction.”
Deuteronomy 7:26
